essential oil of your choice |

5 pounds jumbo
sea salt crystals |

This
recipe will add color and fragrance to any living space. Prepare
the crystals by rinsing them quickly under water to remove the
powder. This helps the crystals accept color better. Allow to
dry completely. If you live in a humid climate, you may wish to
dry them in a room with a fan so they dry completely. You can
simply leave the crystals uncolored for a "glass like" look and
skip to Step 3. If you want colored crystals, put on rubber
gloves and rub the color(s) you want onto each crystal. Use more
color for a more intense look, less for a more pastel effect.
Lay the colored salt on the wax paper or paper bags and allow
them to completely dry. Again, if you live in a humid climate,
you may wish to dry them in a room with a fan so they dry
completely. Once they are dry, use the misting bottle filled
with your fragrance or essential oil and lightly spray the
crystals with scent. Crystals can be re-scented as needed.
Floral fragrance oils are very nice for potpourri. A eucalyptus
and lavender essential oil blend adds add a wonderful fragrance
to any area that needs freshening, plus offers added
aromatherapy benefits. |

To
make good potpourri, one needs to start with flowers that are
dried or freeze-dried. The 3 basic factors one must look at when
buying flowers to make a potpourri are: color, texture and
season appeal. Once these flowers have been thoroughly dried,
start making your potpourri. Fresh flowers should NOT be used
because they will have a mold & mildew smell, and, ultimately be
tossed out. Mix the dried petals together in a clean dry bowl.
Spread out these petals in a 1/4 inch deep layer. Put a small
amount of orri Repeat until all the petals have been used root
over the petals layer. Next, pour 1 drop of essential oil in 4
separate spots on the petals. Now, once again, put everything in
a large bowl. Wear your plastic gloves and toss or mix
everything nicely. Put this entire mixture in a large container.
Allow it to sit airtight and covered for 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. Then,
remove and toss/mix again. Put the beautiful potpourri in bowls
and enjoy it or you could pack it in very pretty bags and tie it
with a cute little bow to give away as gifts! |

Winter
potpourri is a rich, spicy, fragrant blend most suitable for a
den or library where it can be enjoyed in quiet comfort by a
fire and a good book. Combine all ingredients except essential
oil and orris root in a large stainless steel bowl. Cover and
set aside. Place the orris root into a glass measuring cup.
Measure the essential oils into the orris root and stir to
combine. Combine the scented orris root with the botanicals in a
stainless steel or glad container and cover. Allow everything to
steep for at least 3 weeks, shaking periodically to create the
lovely marriage of aromas. To use to scent a room, pour the
potpourri into a pretty display bowl and place it anywhere in
the room where a whiff of aroma will delight the senses. Refresh
as needed with additional essential oil. |
