Calendula

Absolute (Pure) |

The Calendula Absolute should not be confused with
the Calendula infused oil. The delicate Calendula blossoms cannot be steam
distilled. The Calendula
Infused Oil,
means to infuse the dried Calendula blossoms in olive oil (If the color of
the Calendula oil is green, it means it is also diluted by Grape seed Oil). The
result, through a slow process, is a Vegetable Oil and not a
Therapeutic grade Essential Oil.
The Calendula Absolute, on the other hand, is produced
through a distillation method called Solvent Extraction.
During this type of extraction, non-volatile components of the botanical
material - such as waxes and pigments are also extracted,
which produces the purest form of Calendula
Therapeutic grade
Essential Oil.

History:
Calendula flowers were historically considered beneficial for reducing
inflammation,
wound healing, and as an antiseptic. Calendula was used to treat various
skin diseases, ranging from skin ulcerations to
Eczema.
Internally, the soothing effects of calendula have been used for Stomach
Ulcers and inflammation. Traditionally, a sterile tea was
topically applied in cases of
conjunctivitis. In India, which may have been the plant & country of origin,
the gods and goddesses adorning the temples are crowned with wreaths of
marigolds. These flowers are the 'marybuds' of Shakespeare, the prefix
'Mary' coming from the belief that they were worn by Our Lady. In the
sixteenth century, grocers in many countries sold dried marigold petals for
use in drinks, infusions, broth's and for medicaments. An old recipe for
marigold cheese required the milk of seven cows, and the cream from the milk
of seven more cows. Of the plant mixed with other herbs, Fletcher
(1579-1625) wrote 'These for frenzy be. |
